Although the current crop of Greek Life offerings have benefited the student body it became apparent to a small group of sophomores that the needs of the student body could not be addressed with such a small selection of fraternities and because of this the interest group that later affiliated with Psi Upsilon was born. Over the course of the 2008 – 2009 academic year two initiation ceremonies were held and the following seventeen members were inducted into the pledging process:
Choosing Psi Upsilon
During the Fall semester of 2008 discussions of bringing a new fraternity expanded as did the interest group. Before long a close friend of the group, Josh O'Grady, informed us that one of his close friends named Hassan Abdelhalim was involved with a fraternity looking to expand in the state of Virginia. Intrigued, Ryan Moore was put in contact with Hassan, who attended Mary Washington University and soon after Ryan was in touch with Tom Fox from the National Fraternity. The interest group which originated with 21 members was presented with the possibility of affiliating with the national fraternity known as Psi Upsilon and the group, after deliberation, decided to accept.
Early History
During the Spring of 2009 the fraternity began setting up the infrastructure for the fraternity to be built around and over the course of two induction ceremonies 16 members were officially pledging Psi Upsilon's CNU Colony. The Chapter began to work week after week in order to finish the National petition for official chapter status. As of the Fall of 2009 the chapter is closing in on completion of the petition which will promptly be delivered to nationals in order for full chapter status to be voted on by the Executive board.
During early 2009, Ryan Moore participated in the Archons Academy where he was indoctrinated in the rich tradition of Psi Upsilon. Ryan was priviliged enough to officially place a pin on the national map, signifying the CNU Colony as an official branch of the fraternity. Later on during the Summer of 2009 Matt Miller and Paul Kerley attended the National Convention where they met brothers from all around the country and from all eras of Psi Upsilon history.
